July Board of Governors
Commodore Mike Mayer called the meeting to order and a quorum was present.
Jeff Totty, Vice Commodore, reported that he had purchased a weed eater and leaf blower for the caretakers to use around the grounds. Phil has started spraying the weeds under the boats in dry storage. The grounds will be sprayed again for bugs. Mosquitoes are unusually bad this year so come prepared.
Jeff presented an application for membership from John & Lauri Cawthon. They have bought Dave Sweeney’s boat on C dock. Their address is 3803 SW Ridgeway, Bentonville, AR 72712. Welcome, John, Lauri and family.
Harbor Master Kurt Hagen is meeting with Shepherd’s Dock Service to plan for changing the anchor chain at the end of A-Dock. Dewey Brady, who is most familiar with our dock system, will help with this plan. A local tree trimmer cut down two dead trees and trimmed limbs from those trees closest to the road and launch ramp. He also provided the bucket truck to aid in repairing the mast raising pole.
We have a new 3 inch gas powered bilge pump donated by Frank Beber. This pump will empty a flooded boat in minutes and is greatly appreciated.
Jim Holliday purchased a new electric Karcher power washer. We now have 2 of this model. Both are stored under the club house deck.
Due to the unusually high waters this year, swimming is risky. It is advisable not to swallow lake water or swim with open sores.
Dennis Lamberd has donated his sailboat to the club. It is a Chrysler 25.5 with a trailer and is located in dry storage. The Board has decided to conduct a Silent Auction and donate the proceeds to the Christian Medical Center through the Pink Ribbon Regatta.
The Silent Auction is being conducted on the club’s website from now until Sept 2. If no bids are received, the boat will be auctioned at the Sept 27 Pre-Regatta Party on the club’s deck.
There are several projects that Kurt needs some help with in the coming weeks. If you have a few hours to help, please give him a call at 918-786-7637.
Ted English, Rear Commodore, said the Fall Races will be 3 weekends, 2 in October and 1 in November.
Ted thanked Jeff Totty for roasting the pig at the Memorial Day Social. What was left of the BBQ pig was served at the 4th of July party.
Plans for the Long Distance Regatta are underway. The regatta is September 13th. Registration forms will be available on www.glsc.net. Forms will also be available at the club.
Registration forms for the Pink Ribbon Regatta will also be on the website along with information about the Pink Ribbon Pre-Regatta party. The pre-Regatta party has been moved to the club and is a club Social. Members & Guests are invited.
Earl Rose, Treasurer, reported that all of the club’s utilities have risen about 13% this year. The Board is looking at ways to reduce expenses. He, also, wanted to remind members that the ice machine is provided for their convenience. However, it isn’t free. Each bag of ice is $1.00. There is a black box next to the ice machine for this purpose.
Club Bylaws & Rules The board voted to place the Club’s Bylaws & Rules on the website for the convenience of the members and potential members. It is located on the Club Information page.

Aug 16 is the annual Moonlight Madness sail to Two-Tree Island (lighthouse) and back to the club. Pizza will be served at 6pm on the deck. There really was an island with two trees at one time! Honest!! Since the dog days of summer are upon us this is a great chance to sail and enjoy color temperatures and a leisurely sail. GLSC Cruise on Grand Lake starts on Tuesday, Oct 14 and ends back at the club on Saturday, Oct 18. Feel free to join the Cruise at any point along the way! There will be evening stops all along the way. More details will be available soon. PARKING REMINDER Members are reminded that parking along the lower road above the deck is for unloading and is intended for short time periods. The lower road is the access road for boats using the launch ramp and for people taking equipment to their boats. There is no parking on the lower road.
