CARIBBEAN CARNIVAL
15 JUNE 2019
Forty-one sailors, family and friends signed up for the gala and 39 showed up for the fun and food. The weather was forecast to be hot, but clouds kept the temperature down into the lower 80’s with just enough breeze to keep from being stuffy. The Army Corp of Engineers would not let the lake down, keeping water over Lawson’s Landing, so we had the party on the deck by the club house. Joy Casady was let loose to ply her decorating skills and everyone was appreciative of how festive everything looked. Steel band calypso music was playing and several people could be seen enjoying a varietyof icy rum drinks. The really hot spices were left out of the recipe for jerk chicken, which can be very hot, so all palates could enjoy the meal and it turned out really well. Appropriate side dishes were brought and everyone had plenty to eat. Some people noted that having the party on the deck by the club house was a good idea, in that you didn’t have to climb the hill, the food could be kept inside away from annoying bugs and the kitchen was close and available.
The club thanks all the members who helped clean and clear away everything after the party. It makes things much easier for everyone. Tom White’s “Brats and Corn” birthday celebration is next week, 22 June, at 6 PM. The next party is a potluck on 20 July at 7 PM, so mark it on your calendars and we will see you there.
